Background: Like most of the growing colonies of what would become Australia, the Queensland political and business leaders felt that by the late 1800’s there was a pressing need for the creation of a Trustee company to serve the people of Queensland.

Such Trustee companies provide a range of financial management services but principally they focus on estate planning, administering deceased estates, managing the financial affairs of persons unable to look after their own interests, and administering charitable trusts and foundations.

These intentions took shape as the Various Acts of Queensland law in the form of The Queensland Trustees, Limited, Acts of 1888 and 1892 and later amended in 1930, 1932, and 1952. Subsequently the Trustee Companies Act of 1955 lead to the later merger of the Queensland body with the New South Wales and Victorian Trustee Companies to form Perpetual Trustees Australia Limited in June 1964.

In 1964 Perpetual listed its shares on the Australian Stock Exchange and this continues today. Since the 1980’s Perpetual has expanded beyond its traditional trustee business and entered the growing funds management industry.

Device: Handstamp

As stamps of the decimal period have been found with the QTL overprint it seems that the QTL device continued to be used after the 1964 merger.
