Background: The Country Women’s Association was first formed in New South Wales and Queensland in 1922. Later each State and the Northern Territory formed an Association, a process which took a period of just 14 years.

In 1943, a meeting of the State Associations was held in Sydney and this Meeting agreed to form a Federal body, but due to WW2 this did not happen until 1945. At this time it was agreed to form The Country Women’s Association of Australia (CWAA).

The Country Women’s Association in Tasmania’s first meeting was held in Launceston in 1936.

The Association’s pioneer leaders, mostly in their 30-40’s had a clear vision when they set down the foundations of the Association. They tackled the big issues of the day and raised funds to build and purchase the Child Health Centres, the Meeting Rooms, Halls, Shops and the Holiday Homes, many of which we still in use today.
